Kohat ASO impounds 90 vehicles, goods worth Rs 189.1m till May 2016

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) at Kohat impounded 69 non-duty paid vehicles, 21 offending vehicles being used for smuggling and contraband goods worth Rs 189.13 million during first eleven months (July-May) of current fiscal year 2015-16.

Kohat ASO Assistant Collector Muhammad Ali said that the anti-smuggling staff made many successful seizures in running financial year, adding that smugglers will have to bear the full weight of law as no any illegal trade will be tolerated in the region.

Till May, 2016, the ASO impounded 69 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 95.65 million and 21 vehicles, which were used for smuggling, worth Rs 37.80 million and various contraband items worth Rs 55.67 million. The total value of confiscated items stood at Rs 189.13 million.

The assistant collector said that in last financial year 2014-15, the Kohat ASO impounded 57 non-duty paid vehicles valued at Rs 90.60 million, 29 offending vehicles worth Rs 37.80 million and smuggled goods worth Rs 85.72 million.
