Korean envoy assures to help earthquake victims

PESHAWAR: Korean envoy Dr Song Jong Hwan has expressed grief and sorrow over the devastated earthquake that rocked Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and offered condolence over casualties and pledged support for the affected families through international organizations.

The ambassador was on a visit to the provincial metropolis of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where he met honorary consul general of Korea and other businessmen. Commercial Attaché Park Bong Su and Eun Sang Jo also accompanied him during the visit.

Other present on the occasion were Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour, Mohammad Sarwar Mohmand,  Zulfiqar Ali Khan, President KPCCI,  Jamshed Savul, Dr Tariq Jabbar, Ghulam Noorani and Fawad Ishaq.

Speaking to local businessmen, the Korean ambassador said that his country is eager to strengthen trade and economic relations with Pakistan. He said that the Korean companies are investing in various sectors, particularly in hydro power generation in the Pakistan. He also highlighted the prospects for enhanced mutually-beneficial collaboration in diverse fields.

He also spoken of the possibilities of cooperation in the areas of industrial development, hydro power generation, livestock and agro-based industries.

He underlined the importance of regular exchange of experts and academics in related fields to intensify cooperation in the agreed areas and expressed the hope that trade relations between both countries would be further strengthened in the coming days.

He appreciated the efforts of Afan Aziz, honorary consul general of Korea in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for his active work and facilitation provided to both Pakistani and Korean citizens.

He inaugurated the website of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Peshawar and planted a tree in the lawn of the consulate and presided over a flag-hoisting ceremony.

Earlier, on his arrival, the ambassador and other staff of the embassy were received by Afan Aziz, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
