PESHAWAR: The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has introduced a fully digital system for the issuance of Professional Tax challans in Mardan district for the first time.

The initiative has been launched in line with the directives of Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan, who has emphasized good governance and improved public service delivery within the department.

Under the supervision of Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Khalid Ilyas, the department has taken a major step by issuing Professional Tax challans through a completely digital system in Mardan District. The initiative marks the formal beginning of the digitalisation of the tax collection mechanism in the district.

Excise and Taxation Officer Mardan Muhammad Khalid said that the introduction of digital challans will facilitate taxpayers while ensuring greater transparency, efficiency and speed in the tax collection process.

The move is part of the provincial government’s broader policy to modernise the revenue system and promote good governance.

Through this digital system, the department will be able to ensure better record accuracy, improved data management and a more organised and reliable tax recovery process.

According to him, the modern system will help taxpayers avoid unnecessary procedural hurdles while making the revenue collection process more transparent and efficient.

He further stated that the GIS survey of property units and the transfer of property tax records to the MIS system in the three tehsils of Mardan district, Mardan, Takht Bhai and Katlang, are in their final stages.

After Eid, taxpayers will begin receiving property tax challans under the new digital system. He added that an online payment facility is also being introduced to further facilitate the public.

Meanwhile, hotel bed tax challans have also been issued for the first time to hotels and guest houses in Mardan district. So far, a total of Rs938,450 has been deposited into the government exchequer under this head.

The ETO said that such initiatives will help strengthen the provincial revenue system while making tax administration more transparent, efficient and citizen-friendly.
