KPK chamber holds ‘Marble and Granite Export Development’ seminar

PESHAWA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Zulfiqar Ali Khan has said that the marble and granite industry is facing a lot of issues and challenges, due to apathy of incumbent federal and provincial governments towards development of this potential sector.

He was speaking at a seminar on titled: ‘Marble and Granite Export Development’, organized by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in collaboration with All Pakistan Marble Industries Association (APMIA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI), held at the chamber house here on Tuesday.

Besides, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Industry and Commerce, Abdul Karim Khan, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Director Khalid Rasul, Pakistan Marble Exporters Association Chairman, Muhammad Shakeel Munir, the event was attended by KPCCI vice presidents Hammad Rashid, Shuja Muhammad, members of the chamber executive committee, importers and exporters and others.

KPCCI president said the exporters of marble and granite are being faced with numerous issues, due to lack of concern of federal and provincial governments toward development of this important industry.

Zulfiqar Ali stressed the need of serious efforts on part of government and relevant authority to give boost to marble and granite industry, besides resolving of issues faced by exporters. He suggested the initiatives for development of marble and granite industry should be made through public-private partnership (PPP) and joint venture.

Hammad Rashid demanded the appointment of Director General (DG) of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in Peshawar. He called upon the TDAP and Pakistan Stone Development Company (Pasdec) to play their proactive role for development of marble and granite sector. He stressed the need of provision of modern facilities to marble and granite industry.

While speaking on the occasion, TDAP Director Khalid Rasul has assured the participants for taking every possible to resolve isseus and problems of businessmen and exporters, engaged in marble and granite industry.

KP Chief Minister Special Assistant, Abdul Karim has reaffirmed the commitment of provincial government toward development of marble and granite sector in the province, and vowed that it would provide all facilities and make measures for resolution of problems of exporters of marble and granite.
