KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the last date for filing tax returns as serious discrepancies have been identified in the online return filing on e-portal.

The KTBA, in a letter to the FBR chairman, said that the taxpayers and tax practitioners are facing immense problems in preparing and e-filing their income tax returns and statements. “They are facing major issues like improper availability of IRIS software for filing the returns,” the KTBA said.

Earlier, the FBR extended the last date to file income tax returns for the tax year 2016 by salaried individuals and persons falling under the final tax regime to September 30 from August 31.

The KTBA also said while working out liability against final tax, the IRIS software is showing ‘nil’. “Instead of charging tax under the final regime, the tax return is creating refund of the amount of the total tax deduction,” the KTBA added.
