KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the deadline for filing the monthly withholding statements of income tax and sales tax for June 2016.

KTBA President Rehan Hasan Jafri, in a letter to FBR Chairman Nisar Khan, stated that businesses in the whole country remained closed due to gazetted holidays for almost ten working days from July 2 to July 10 including the Eid.

Holidays were announced by the federal government from July 5 to 8, whereas the last dates for filing the monthly withholding statements for the income and monthly sales tax returns under the Sales Tax Act for the tax period of June 2016 are July 15 and July 18.

Keeping in view the few working days, the KBA said that the FBR should facilitate the taxpayers who are contributing a huge amount to the national exchequer.

“We, therefore, on behalf of the genuine taxpayers of the country and our members of the bar earnestly request you to kindly extend the date of filing of monthly Income Tax Withholding Statement and the Sales Tax Return for the tax period of June 2016 until July 31 in order to enable the members to complete the work and to facilitate them,” the letter added.
