Labor Day: labor is an integral, important part of our economy, Rashdi

ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of May Day, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi has said labor is an integral and important part of our economy. The tremendous contribution by our workers in economic development and growth of the country in recent years cannot be over emphasized. It is high time to realize that workers should be given their due rights and dignity in the society and to motivate them for economic prosperity of our country.

The present Government is committed to the welfare and up keeping of the working class. The Government Employee’s Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) takes care of old-age pension of registered workers. The Government has increased minimum pension from Rs 3, 600 to Rs 5,250 this year.

The Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) provides housing, health, education, marriage and death grant facilities to workers and their families. The Government is also developing an automated integration system for in all workers welfare institutions. This will ensure transparency in provision of death and marriage grants and employees’ old-age pension.

The minimum wage for unskilled workers has also been increased to Rs.12, 000 per month by the present Government. Government is also committed to protect the rights of workers at work place through implementation of labor laws by the Provincial Labor Departments.
