LAHORE: Justice Ayesha A. Malik of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has stopped the government from receiving agriculture income tax . The LHC issued directives after hearing arguments of counsels of various landlords.
In their petition, the landlords prayed to the court that the government is not authorised to receive agriculture income tax from them as such ordinance is not passed by parliament. They further adopted the plea that hte government already declared agriculture income as tax. Landlords said that they are already paying tax on import of agriculture machinery, while on the other hand the government has failed to bring positive reforms in agriculture sector due to which farmers are facing difficulties.
They prayed to court to declare the notification of agriculture income tax as null and void. Court directed government counsels to file their reply within fifteen days.
