LHC bars NTC from collecting anti-dumping duty on steel sheets

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has barred the the National Tariff Commission (NTC) from collecting anti-dumping duty on the import of steel sheets. Justice Shahid Kareem issued a stay order to this effect on the applications of importers.

Justice Shahid Kareem has heard the case in which the counsel for the appellant, Shafqat Mehmood Chohan, argued that the board of governors of the NTC has completed its term and the eligibility of the chairman and members of the commission has already been challenged in the court.

He added that the board of governor has no authority to impose anti-dumping duty according to its own will.

After hearing the arguments, the court issued the stay order on the collection of anti-dumping duty on the imports of steel sheets. The court also issued notice and called the federal government and National Tariff Commission on June 29.
