Logistics property group Goodman to develop two 60,000m2 warehouses for WMF in Germany

BERLIN: Logistics property group Goodman will build two warehouses for WMF group in Germany at two different places. Each of the warehouse will have 60,000m2 of space. WMF group, a home and hotel furnishing firm, has been trying to integrate its logistics capabilities as a part of the new company strategy since 2013.

The group plans to consolidate its multiple logistics locations into two strategic hubs and reorganise its infrastructure to strengthen its international supply chain business.

33 of its existing logistics centre will be consolidated at these two facilities, one of which is at in Dornstadt, near Ulm, and the other being at Bergkamen, near Dortmund.

While the Dornstadt property is spread across 21,000m2, the second logistics property to be built by Goodman covers an extensive 40,000m2. The strategic location of the facilities make those ideal to be developed as logistics hub.

While Dornstadt can assure of optimal infrastructure access to the A7 and A8 motorways and the B10 highway, the one at Bergkamen will be situated directly on the A2 beside offering easy access to the A1, B61 and B233.

The hubs will assist WMF to establish connections to western Germany, neighbouring Belgium and the Netherlands and the largest European ports.

WMF Group president of operations Clemens Wöhrle said: “In the interests of our customers, we set about centralising our logistics process to make it considerably more efficient. In cooperation with Goodman, we have focussed on two locations that provide us with optimal conditions for supplying goods throughout Germany and internationally.

“This new logistics centre in Dornstadt strengthens our more than 160 years presence in the region and is part of our broader investment plan.”

Goodman plans to construct a WMF warehouse in Dornstadt. that will be both flexible and adaptive.

Goodman director Germany Jordan Corynen said: “As we can observe throughout Germany and Europe, consolidation of logistics operations is an important trend in order to increase operational efficiency, which is a key driver of business growth for our customers.

“Together with WMF, we were able to design flexible warehouse spaces that can adapt according to WMF’s evolving needs in two prime locations in two intensely competitive real estate markets.”
