Customs Intelligence DG Lutfullah visits Customs House, holds marathon meetings

KARACHI: Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Director General (DG) Lutfullah Virk on Thursday visited the Customs House and held a series of meeting sessions with high officers of Pakistan Customs Services (PCS).

Lutfullah Virk along with Intelligence and Investigation Karachi Director Asif Margoob Siddiqui arrived at the Customs House at around 11.30am and held meetings on the 5th floor of the Customs House.

Enforcement-South Chief Collector Muhammad Nazim Saleem, Preventive Collector Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, Gwadar Collector Dr Owais Jawwad Agha, Quetta Collector Raja Zaheer and other officers were present in the meeting. The agenda of meeting was steps and initiatives taken in connection with anti-smuggling activities.

Lutfullah Virk stressed the need for taking effective and decisive steps regarding elimination of smuggling activities. He urged the customs officers to leave no stone unturned in order to curb smuggling activities in the southern region, adding that the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence is ready to provide every possible assistance to the customs authorities for eradicating the menace of smuggling.

During the meeting, the collectors of Gwadar, Quetta and Preventive briefed the DG on steps being taken against smuggling activities.

Lutfullah Virk emphasised on making checkposts operational at Quetta and Gwadar corridors. He further urged the authorities concerned to establish more checkposts for the Afghan Transit Trade (ATT).

Virk further said that the federal government had special concerns over eradicating smuggling activities and the authorities concerned at the governmental level had assured their full support in uprooting the menace of smuggling from the country.

Virk further assured the customs authorities and the respective collectorates that the government would also provide latest machinery, gadgets and equipment in order to cope with the latest techniques of smugglers in modern days.

The customs officers also presented a three-month anti-smuggling report before him and the DG expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing operations against smuggling activities.
