KUALA LUMPUR: The Kelantan Customs Department is tracking about 700 companies in the state that are not paying the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Its director Mohd Nasir Yusoff said based on monitoring carried out, the department found only about 1,000 out the 7,684 GST-registered companies in the state were active taxpayers.
On Thursday, the Customs Department launched the Customs Blue Ocean Strategy Operation (Op CBOS), which will be implemented in stages from Sept 1 until the end of December to audit companies registered for GST.
Speaking to reporters after launching the Kelantan state-level Op CBOS here today, he said for a start, Op CBOS would focus on the 700 errant companies involved in various business sectors such as food, construction, manufacturing and retail.
