KARACHI: The Research and Development (R&D) Section of MCC-Appraisement-East has detected an under-invoicing case amounting to Rs 10 million against M/s Adamjee Limited, it is learnt here.
The sources close to the Customs authorities claimed that the R&D authorities brought the case to the notice of the high-ups including MCC Appraisement-East Collector Manzoor Memon and Additional Collector-ADC Khalil Yousufani.
Taking prompt action, the Collector-MCC Appraisement-East Manzoor Hussain Memon formed a team under the supervision of Additional Collector-ADC Khalil Yousufani comprising Principal Appraiser Shafiullah Awan and Examining Officer Azhar Abbas to investigate the case.
The R&D team after scrutinizing the data, found that the importer M/s Adamjee Limited through under-invoicing imported three to four consignments of auto-parts on which the importer attempted to evade legitimate duty/taxes amounting to Rs 10 million.
After detecting the under-invoicing, the R&D authorities sent a demand notice to the importer M/s Adamjee Limited in order to deposit legitimate duty/taxes amounting to Rs10million.
The Customs authorities through their effective measure compelled the importer M/s Adamjee Limited to deposit the legitimate duty/taxes amounting to Rs10million in the national exchequer.
The sources further informed Customs Today that the AIB/R&D authorities of MCC-Appraisement (West) have also detected a tax evasion case amounting to Rs8.9million against the same importer i.e. M/s Adamjee Limited on the imports of auto parts.
