Collector Saleem sets up ‘verification cell’ to check concessionary SROs given to importers

KARACHI: The Collector of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem has set up a “Verification Cell” in order to check the concessionary SROs facilities being provided to the importers at the time of clearing the consignments, it is learnt here.

Sources informed Customs Today that the Collector MCC-Appraisement (West) Muhammad Saleem has assigned an Additional Collector ADC Nayyar Shafiq as the head of the cell while the Additional Collector has a responsibility to appoint other Customs officials as a team and informed the Collector after finalizing the team for verification cell.

the sources further disclosed that the verification cell will look after the entire history of the importers prior giving them the benefit of any concessionary SRO in their imported consignments.

“The team would also check the status and database of the importers after clearing the consignments in order to check the veracity whether the importer claiming correct concessionary SRO as per Customs Act or not”, they added.

They further said that the authorities concerned will also present month-wise report before the Collector in connection with the working of verification cell, adding that the said verification cell will also play a significant role in enhancing the revenue generation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the AIB/R&D and PRV Cells are also working in the Collectorate of MCC-Appraisement (West), while the establishments of the Verification Cell will also helps to curb the revenue leakages.

The sources further claimed that the trade and Customs agents bodies were also expressed their satisfaction over the establishment of the said cell and were of the view that this step of the Customs authorities will certainly put a positive effect on trade.
