MULTAN: President of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mian Rashid Iqbal, has strongly urged the Government of Pakistan to extend the deadline for income tax returns, citing significant challenges currently faced by the business community.
In his appeal, Iqbal outlined several pressing issues that have hindered businesses from meeting the September 30 deadline. He noted technical difficulties with the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) IRIS system, particularly password-related challenges, as well as widespread internet connectivity issues across the country. Additionally, the ongoing electricity crisis has further complicated matters for business operators.
Iqbal expressed concern that these obstacles are preventing businesses from filing their tax returns on time, which not only imposes extra financial pressure but also raises the risk of legal complications. He emphasized that the combination of unreliable internet and electricity supply has rendered the FBR’s online filing system increasingly inaccessible.
In light of these difficulties, Mian Rashid Iqbal called on the government to consider a one-month extension of the income tax return submission deadline. He argued that such a measure would allow the business community to better fulfill their legal obligations and continue to contribute effectively to the national economy.
By addressing these concerns, Iqbal believes that the government can alleviate some of the burdens faced by businesses, ultimately fostering a more supportive environment for economic growth and stability.
