MULTAN: Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry have raised concerns over the hike in the freight prices of airlines for the export of mango.
Vice President MCCI Muhammad Tariq Khan has demanded to reduce the cargo charges of the international airline for the promotion of their mango export.
He told that recently few international airlines have started their flight operations from Multan Airport for export and import. When business community of Multan have decided to export their vegetables and fruits by utilizing this international airlines they have increased the freight prices for the local exporters.
Emirates Airline has raised their export charges of Rs65 per kilogram mango and these increases in the freight charges are not affordable for the exporters. He told that we are already facing issues to meet international market standards for the export of our goods and we have replaced wooden crates for the packing.
He demanded that increase in the freight charges of the international airline may damage our export volume and after the decline in the prices of petroleum this increase is excessive. Government Should provide export facility on the Pakistan International Airline with economical freight charges in order to eliminate monopoly of private airlines.
South Punjab is one of the major mango belts which will contribute in the national economy but government should take notice of this recent increase in the export freight charges of the airline.
