Mianwali ASO impounds truck loaded with coriander seeds

MIANWALI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) confiscated contraband coriander seeds worth Rs13,90,000 involving duties and taxes amounting to Rs 452700 besides impounding a Mazda truck worth Rs15,00,000.

Sources told Customs Today, that Additional Collector Muhammad Saeed Asad received a tip off that a huge quantity of coriander seeds are being smuggled. He immediately constituted a team which intercepted a Mazda truck on main road. The ASO team during checking of vehicle recovered 22240 kilograms of foreign origin coriander seeds. The items were being transported from Peshawar to Faisalabad and Mianwali.

After recovering the item the staff asked driver to produce the documents regarding the legal possession of the item but he failed to do so on which customs team seized the item and also impounded the vehicle under Section 157 (2) of Customs Act 1969.

The detecting staff comprised Superintendent Sardar Muhammad inspector Tanveerul Haq, Amer Mumtaz Bajwa, Atif Mumtaz and Sepoys Ghulam Mohyuddin, Muhammad Iqbal, Hafiz Naseer also took part in the operation.
