Mianwali ASO seizes smuggled goods worth Rs7.77m

FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Mianwali has seized smuggled items worth Rs7.778 million involving customs duty and taxes amounting to Rs1.237 million, Besides impounded vehicle worth Rs3 million being used for smuggling transportation.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan received information regarding some smuggling attempts on which he formed a team comprising Superintendent Chaudhary Sardar Muhammad, Muhammad Mansha Muhammad Umar Bhatti, and sepoys Muhammad Feroz, Muhammad Anwar and Said Rasool.

The ASO team intercepted a Nissan trailer bearing registration No. TLC-832 near Sara-e- Muhajir Chowk District Bhakkar and searched the vehicle. During search the ASO team recovered office chair low back (100-Pcs), bar stools (324-Pcs), board clip (166-Kgs), wall hanging decorative mirrors (25-Pcs), staplers (924-Kg), ball pen (15572-Pcs), office visitor chair (300-Pcs), chair parts (1000-kg), staplers pins (198-kgs), file cover (894-kg), black lead pencils (11520-Pcs), high class bar chair (160-Pcs), chair base (140-Pcs), chair (64-Pcs), solution tape (90-kg), and stapler large (50-pcs) also others different brand of items.

The ASO team asked the driver of the vehicle who was identified as Muhammad Farooq Iqbal son of Noor Muhammad residential Chountra Ouchail Tehsil and District Khushab to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of loaded goods but he failed to show any relevant documents.

The ASO team seized the goods under section 168 of the Customs Act 1969 and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.
