Mianwali ASO seizes smuggled items valued Rs1.9m on tip-off

MIANWALI: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Mianwali, has seized foreign origin non-duty paid used computer sets, LCDs, DVDs and Adopter power cables and keyboards with carrier vehicles. The appraised value of the smuggled items is Rs1.9 million involving duty and tax worth Rs307308.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Dr Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhry received a tip-off that some items are being brought into the country without paying custom duty and taxes.

The ASO team, comprising Superintendent Choudhary Muhammad Sardar, Inspectors Ameer Ali, Bashir Ali, Ansar Saleemi and Sepoys Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Mansha, Muhammad Amin, Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Ashraf, started checking the vehicles near toll plaza, M.M Road, Mianwali Station.

The ASO team intercepted a trailer bearing registration No: TLL-985. The vehicle was loaded with miscellaneous smuggling items, including used computer (110-Sets), LCD 465 pieces, used hard-disk 1700 pieces, used CDs and DVDs-600 pieces, used laptop 35 pieces, used computer adopter 1100 pieces, power cable computer 900 kgs, keyboard 2,500 pieces and used mouse 5,000 pieces and other items.

The ASO team asked the accused named Muhammad Nawaz son of Muhammad Hayat (Driver) and Muhammad Naeem son of Lorasab Hussain (Owner), residents of tehsil Kahoota, district Mianwali), to provide legal documents of the import but he failed.

The ASO team seized the items under Section 168 of the Customs Act-1969 for violation of Section 2(s), 16, 18 of the Customs Act-1969. The ASO team arrested the accused and forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication.
