Customs seizes non-customs paid items, aphrodisiacs worth millions of rupees

LAHORE: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized non-customs paid aphrodisiacs and other smuggled items worth millions of rupees from the stand of a goods transport company.

Source told Customs Today that the Anti-Smuggling Cell of the Customs I&I raided the stand and seized Japanese and Indian-made cosmetic items, aphrodisiacs, non-duty paid cigarettes and miscellaneous items worth Rs 5.6 million.

Customs I&I superintendent told Customs Today that illegally imported medicines and cigarettes were loaded in a pick-up and were being transported to Multan from Lahore. He said that the medicines and cigarettes were not notified items and were simply seized and no arrest was made.  He added that case has been registered and investigations are underway in this regard. He said that most of the medicines were made in Japan, Thailand and India.

Meanwhile Malik Yasin said that in a separate raid the anti-smuggling team has seized 1200 kilograms of suiting cloth from a truck.  The truck was coming from Peshawar and was to be supplied to a famous brand owner in Lahore. The sources said that the cloth value was determined at Rs 2 million.

Official sources said that the operations were conducted on the instructions of Director I&I under the supervision of Superintendent Malik Yasin led by Superintendent Amjad Malik along with Intelligence Officers Sohail Murtaza and Mansoor Elahi and others.
