KARACHI: Federal Minister for Port and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bazenjo has assured the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) of improvement in Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Act.
Talking to the FPCCI officials at their office, Mir Bazenjo promised to address all the issues being faced by traders at the ports.
He said that not only the law will be changed, but rules will also be made to facilitate the businessmen. The federal minister directed the officials concerned to prepare proposals for improvement in the clearance systems.
The FPCCI representatives are now looking forward to have positive outcome from decisions of the federal minister for ports on the following issues: (i) to declare custom agents a member trustee for being most prominent and round the clock stake holders, workers, users and largest service providers at ports and largest revenue payers of port wharfage, demurrage and other charges to port exchequers (ii) the trade of entire Pakistan affiliated with ports for their imports and exports are extremely in trouble and fear in the hands of terminal operators and shipping agents on account of extra ordinary charges (iii) the extra charges of shipping agents, terminal operators and forwarders will sabotage the shipping trade.
