Mis-declaration: Appraisement West submits FIR against M/s Eastern Rags, M/s Aftab Alam

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Appraisement West submitted first informed report (FIR) before the Customs Court against suspects namely Irfan Bhatti, proprietor of M/s Eastern Rags, Sarfaraz Alam, proprietor of Aftab Alam, Adeel Arshad and others, who were nominated in a case of mis-declaration of description, weight, quantity and value.

On October 11, 2019, investigation officer informed the court that a credible information was passed to AIB section to the effect that the above mentioned importers imported used clothing, shoes, leather bags and kitchenware, are involved gross mis-declaration, therefore container was examined imported by the above mentioned suspects.

He further submits that during the search customs officials found old and used electronics, consisting headphone, vacuum cleaner, remotes, hair dryer/ hair straighter, second hand clothing consisting of blanket, pants, jeans, shirts, new soft and hard type suitcase, new casual shoes, joggers, shoes and spillers, new cup digital thermal coffee maker, new bar stool, new nutria bullet extractor, new small wine rack, new polarized lens sunglasses, new non-stick kitchenware, microwave steamer sterilizer, folding stepper m/o iron steel, wooden convertible crib, hanging light, neon luggage tag, new rocket blender etc.

Investigation officer said that during the preliminary inquiry into the matter it has revealed that the importers have tried to get clearance of the high value, multiple origin goods through mis-declaration and violating the mandatory provisions of law and procedure and evaded the duty and taxes in the tune of Rs22,94,278.

After the hearing court directed him to complete investigation and submit progress report on next date of hearing.
