KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim charge sheet against owner and proprietor of M/s Ahmed Noor Steel Furnace and others, who were nominated in the first information report (FIR) for mis-declaration of iron and re-melt table cutting scrap.
On 28 December 2020, investigation officer of Customs Appraisement and Facilitation West submitted charge sheet and submitted that an information was received that above mentioned importer and others are involved in clearance of GP sheets of secondary quality under the garb of re-meltable scrap, the consignment was jointly examined by the examination staff and AIB (R&D) staff at West Wharf Karachi.
He further submitted that on physical examination of the all nine containers in the goods declaration dated Oct 14, 2020 the actual description of goods was found iron & steel galvanized pre-painted steel sheet of secondary, rest is iron & steel galvanized/ pre-painted sheet cutting remeltable scrap valuing of Rs20, 56, 33 and duty and taxes in involved of Rs12,460,494.
He further submitted that after the investigation, it was found that the above mentioned importer and other accomplices are found guilty of the offences as defined under the provisions of section 32, 23A, 79 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 14, 14A, 43, 44, 45 and 46 of section 156(i) ibid, section 33 and 34 of sales tax act and section 148 of ITO 2001 and other allied laws.
After the hearing, the court approved the charge sheet and adjourned the case for regular hearing.
