Montego Bay Chamber reacts to boycott Chinese businesses: PSOJ

ALASKA: The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) and trade unionist, Helene Davis White say the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce has overreacted in threatening to boycott Chinese businesses. Chamber president, Georgia Henry, issued the warning arguing that the Chinese are unwilling to contribute to the social development of the parish.

Speaking at a Gleaner Editors’ Forum Henry, said unless the Asians change their attitude, they should be censored through the boycotting of their businesses. However, PSOJ president, Williams Mahfood, says such a stance from the MoBay business leadership has no place in addressing the concerns.

Mahfood says the Chinese business community has contributed significantly to Jamaica’s development. Meanwhile, trade unionist Helene Davis White is suggesting that the problems with the Chinese business community may be with new entrants rather than established players. However, she says threatening a boycott is excessive and the chamber should instead focus on trying to integrate.
