M/s Agro Processors receives show-cause notice for Rs 17.4 million tax evasion

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate of Adjudication-I has served a show-cause notice on M/s Agro Processors and  Atmospheric Gases (Pvt) Limited for evading taxes/duties to the tune of Rs 17.4 million on the import of RBD Palm Olein.
According to details, M/s Agro Processors and Atmospheric Gases (Private) Limited imported RBD Palm Olien and claimed benefits of SRO 450(I)/2001 dated 18.6.2001, however, the  GD did not show any details, no concessionary notification claimed for Sales Tax or CED. The imported goods are not covered under the claimed SRO and under the zero rating concessions of Income Tax Ordinance 2001.
M/s Agro Processors and Atmospheric Gases (Pvt) Ltd declared liable to pay short paid amount which comes to a total of Rs 17.428 million.  The importers are directed to deposit the short levied amount in the national exchequer within 10 days with intimation to this office however no response has been received so far.
After waiting for a while, the Collector Adjudication-I has served a show cause notice to the importer asking it to either deposit the short-paid amount or justify their position.
