M/s Asian Touch served notice for evading taxes on blankets’ import

KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II has served a show-cause notice on M/s Asian Touch International Lahore for allegedly evading duty/taxes amounting to Rs 402,841 on import of blankets.

The department concerned scrutinising the data of importer relating to claiming concessions in taxes under SRO 1125(I)/2011 dated December 31, 2011, found that M/s Asian Touch International imported consignment of blanket through Appraisement-East  and allegedly availed the undue benefits of concessionary rate of sales tax and income tax.

It may be mentioned here that the concessions offered vide SRO 1125(I)/2011 dated December 31, 2011 are only admissible to manufacturers of goods covered in the five sectors only highlighted in the condition given in the said notification.

And whereas, on further analysis it was transpired that the status of M/s Asian Touch International as available on the FBR websites NTN inquiry is that of an importers/retailer and the concern was not registered as a manufacturer at the time of subject imports, the reports states.

Therefore, an amount of Rs 402,841 has been short-paid/evaded by the importers on account of paying concessionary rate of taxes.
