M/s Nadeem Agencies moves SHC seeking restoration of license

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed customs officials to file their respective para wise comments on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Nadeem Agencies, seeking restoration of its clearing agent license blocked by customs authorities. A two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Umer Sial, was hearing the petition.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is customs clearing agent and engaged in Afghan Transit Trade. It fulfills all liabilities regularly, however, officials of the customs department issued a show cause notice for disputed amount. The petitioner replied and submitted all relevant documents, however, the customs department blocked/ suspended its clearing agent license without adopting procedure of laws.

Citing Deputy Collector of Customs, Deputy Collector of Customs Collectorate West, chairman Federal Board of Revenue as respondents, counsel pleaded the court may declare that act of the respondents is illegal, mala fide and arbitrary.

He also pleaded the court may restore its clearing agent license and restrain them from taking any coercive action against it.
