KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the Customs Department and deputy attorney general on a constitutional petition filed by M/s Saad Fabrics (Private) Limited, seeking restoration of its sales tax return number suspended by the customs officials.
While hearing of the petition, a two-member bench, headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, also directed them to file their respective para wise comments on the next date of hearing.
Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that it is engaged in the lawful business of import and export of textile products and fulfills all the requirements according with law and never involved in any criminal case, however, officials of the customs department issued a show cause notice to the petitioner and suspended its sales tax return number without fulfilling legal requirement.
Citing Chairman Federal Board of Revenue, the Commissioner Inland Revenue Corporate Regional Tax Office, the commissioner Inland Revenue Zone-VI, Corporate Regional Tax Office as respondents, he pleaded the court to declare the act of the respondents as illegal, mala fide and arbitrary.
Importer also pleaded the court may restore its sales tax return number and restrain them from taking any coercive action against it till final order in this petition.
