M/s Textile Mode moves SHC for restoration of sales tax return number

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the Customs Department and deputy attorney on a constitutional petition filed by proprietor of M/s Textile Mode, Muhammad Farooq Reman, seeking restoration of his sales tax return number suspended by the customs officials.

While hearing of the petition, a two-member bench, headed by justice Munib Akhtar, also directed them to file their respective para wise comments on the next date of hearing.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that it is engaged in the lawful business of manufacturing of textile goods, import and export and always fulfills his liabilities according to law. However, the customs authorities issued a show cause notice to the petitioner and suddenly suspended his sales tax return number without fulfilling the legal requirements.

Citing Secretary Ministry of Finance, chief commissioner Inland Revenue Corporate RTO, the commissioner Inland Revenue IV Corporate RTO as respondents, petitioner pleaded the court to declare that act of the respondents as illegal, mala fide and arbitrary.

He also pleaded the court to restore its sales tax return number immediately and restrain them from taking any coercive action against the petitioner till final order in this petition.
