MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Multan has seized smuggled goods and vehicles of worth Rs. 125.04 million during various operations conducted throughout April 2024. This notable haul reflects a substantial 36 % decrease compared to the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year.
The seized items, comprising carrier vehicles, non-duty paid vehicles, betel nuts, food items, cigarettes, mobile phones, and various miscellaneous goods, underscore the persistent challenge posed by illicit trade networks in the region. With a remarkable surge in the number of cases, authorities are intensifying efforts to dismantle smuggling operations and curb unlawful commercial Customs Anti-Smuggling Teams impounded almost 10 non-duty paid vehicles of Rs.57.5 million during their intensive crackdown in the territory.
Under the adept leadership of Collector Customs Multan, Syed Imran Sajjad Bukhari and Additional Collector Shah Faisal Sahu, the Customs Enforcement has adopted a aggressive approach to combat smuggling activities. Special attention has been directed towards apprehending non-duty paid vehicles, which are often utilized in criminal endeavors.
In addition to enforcement measures, administrative strategies such as auctions, currency deposits, and confiscations have contributed to revenue generation, amounting to Rs.85.4 million for the Multan Collectorate. Furthermore, Customs Anti-Smuggling Squads and airport officials have been instructed to enhance surveillance and intercept illegal movements of essential commodities, Iranian petroleum products, currency, precious metals, and mobile phones.
