Multan Customs Adjudication declares confiscation of cell phones as legal

MULTAN: The Customs Adjudication has issued Orders-in-Original and ordered to confiscate nine mobile phones as the respondent did not appear before the authority to prove the legal import of phones.

The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) Multan had seized nine cell phones of Samsung brand during the checking of a passenger luggage at Multan airport, while the accused passenger fled from the scene.

Owner of cell phones, Naeem Sarwar a resident of Kot Addu was served show-cause notice and couple of notices for hearing. The owners did not attend the hearing of seized mobile phones’ case on which Deputy Collector Farhat Ali has announced the confiscation of mobile phones as outright.

The deputy collector issued ONO for confiscation of cell phones under provision of Section 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 along with section 3(1) of the Import and Export Control Act, 1950.
