MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement in Multan has started a vigorous campaign against smuggling, achieving unprecedented success with seizures valued at Rs482.28 million in January 2024.
Led by Collector Syed Imran Sajjad Bukhari and Additional Collector Shah Faisal Sahu, the enforcement drive targeted a diverse range of contraband, including carrier vehicles, mobile phones, and illicit petroleum products, disrupting smuggling networks throughout the region. Anti-smuggling squads executed precision strikes, effectively intercepting smuggled goods within their jurisdiction.
Of particular concern were non-duty paid vehicles, recognized as potential instruments for nefarious activities. Under the guidance of Dr. Fareed Iqbal Qureshi, Member Customs (Operations), the enforcement team apprehended 41 such vehicles, marking a notable 95% increase from the previous year.
These robust enforcement measures not only dismantled smuggling operations but also bolstered revenue streams, amounting to Rs. 566.68 million through efficient administrative channels such as auctions and currency deposits.
Additionally, stringent directives have been issued to anti-smuggling units and mobile squads to enhance surveillance, thwarting the illicit movement of essential commodities, petroleum products, and high-value electronics, thereby safeguarding national interests.
The resounding success of the Multan Customs Enforcement underscores the government’s steadfast commitment to combat smuggling, strengthen trade integrity, and uphold national security across the region.
