MULTAN: Customs team deputed at General Post Office (GPO) seized gold biscuits of 8 tolas concealed in a parcel during intelligence base operation.
Sources told Customs Today that Multan Customs staff deputed at the General Post Office (GPO) enhance the monitoring of coming goods to foil any attempt of smuggling. The Customs Collectorate Multan has alerted the staff to properly examine any coming goods at General Post Office to prevent smuggling.
Assistant Collector Muhammad Ikram has tightened the scrutiny of goods on the General Post Office and Multan International Airport after receiving directions from Collector Saud Imran Ahmad. Multan Customs Collectorate received tip that smuggling attempt may be done through General Post Office Multan.
General Post Office Multan Dera Adda received an international courier parcel from China for the delivery. Courier parcel found suspicious to Multan Customs authorities on its initial examination at GPO Multan. Superintendent Yousaf Balouch and Inspector Ramzan Seyal informed the authorities and open the seal of courier parcel received from China. During close inspection of courier Multan Customs found biscuits of gold concealed in parcel coming from China.
During the preliminary investigation of Multan Customs they found that said parcel was booked for delivery to Shahid Furqan a resident of Rehman Pura Javed Nagar Samejabad from Multan. Multan Customs team took the gold in their custody due to non-payment of Customs duty.
According to law, sending gold or any goods from foreign country without declaration is illegal. The net quantity of recovered gold was almost 8 tolas worth Rs400,000. Multan Customs teams seized the recovered gold under Customs Act 1969 and further investigations were still underway till the filing of this report.
