MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement team successfully thwarted a smuggling attempt involving 87 laptops and 18 tablets, valued at over Rs10 million, which were concealed in a shipment declared as scrap.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Collector Customs Maryam Jamilah, following directives from Multan Customs Collector Imran Sajjad Bukhari. The cargo shipment arrived from Dubai and was subject to inspection due to its dubious declaration. Upon thorough examination, Customs officials uncovered the electronic devices hidden within the scrap material.
Collector Bukhari emphasized the importance of the operation in combating smuggling activities, stating, “This case underscores our commitment to protecting the national economy. We remain vigilant in our efforts to ensure compliance with trade regulations.”
The seized items have been confiscated in accordance with the Customs Act of 1969, and further investigations are underway to identify the individuals behind the smuggling attempt. Bukhari reassured the public that operations against smugglers would be intensified to safeguard the integrity of Pakistan’s trade practices.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Customs officials in their efforts to curb illegal trade, as the department continues to reinforce its strategies to combat smuggling and promote lawful commerce within the country.
