MULTAN: Regional Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has seized huge quantity of non-duty paid poppy seeds and milk powder, valued at Rs.20.24 million, during an operation near Sher Shah.
The crackdown followed a tip-off received by Director Saeed Watto, alerting authorities to a large consignment of smuggled goods en route from Quetta. Acting swiftly, Watto instructed Deputy Director Muhammad Zahid to intensify efforts against the illegal transport of contraband in the region.
Field intelligence units were put on high alert, and their vigilance paid off when a truck carrying the illicit goods was intercepted on Sher Shah Road. The raid uncovered nearly 19,894 kilograms of poppy seeds packed in 370 jute bags, along with 10 bags of Diary Fresh Milk Powder.
Director Watto commended the team for their swift action and dedication to curbing smuggling activities. “This operation is a testament to our unwavering commitment to combating illegal trade and protecting our economy from such threats,” Watto stated.
The seized goods have been secured, and an investigation is underway to trace the smuggling network responsible for the contraband. Authorities are determined to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in this operation.
This significant seizure underscores the ongoing efforts by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan to tackle smuggling head-on, ensuring that such illicit activities do not undermine the country’s economic stability. The Directorate remains committed to strengthening its enforcement measures and maintaining the integrity of Pakistan’s borders.
