MULTAN: The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt, recovering 30 kilograms of silver valued at approximately Rs13.4 million.
As per reports, the operation, conducted near Bawata, Dera Ghazi Khan, was carried out by the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) in coordination with local authorities.
During the search, ASO officials discovered the silver bars hidden in unclaimed luggage. No passengers came forward to claim ownership or provide valid import or purchase documents, confirming the consignment’s smuggled nature.
The seized silver was taken into custody under the Customs Act of 1969. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source, route, and intended recipients of the smuggled goods, with authorities working to apprehend those responsible for the smuggling operation.
This successful operation comes amid rising smuggling activities, particularly of silver, following an increase in international prices of the precious metal. The local market price of silver has recently surpassed Rs5,000 per tola.
Earlier this week, Customs officials conducted a series of coordinated operations, seizing additional smuggled silver and vehicles used for illegal transport, with the total value of recent seizures amounting to Rs26.76 million. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) remains committed to curbing smuggling activities and protecting Pakistan’s economic interests.
