Multan Customs I&I seizes four tons of Sunflower Canola seeds worth Rs4m

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation team seized four tons of foreign origin Sunflower Canola worth Rs4 million during operation on Friday.

Sources told Customs Today, that Customs I&I received credible information from their source that huge quantity of foreign origin consignments will be transported through Multan region.

Deputy Director Customs Intelligence Khial Muhammad Khan alerted field staff after receiving the said information and formed special team comprising Inspector Haq Nawaz ,Inspector Muhammad Umer, Inspector Malik Muhammad Nasir , Zulfiqar, Shakeelur Rehman and others. Customs Intelligence and Investigation has carried out action in line with the anti-smuggling drive being pursued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to foil any bid of smuggling from jurisdiction.

Field Intelligence Unit team was deputed at the main entrance and exit points of the city to thwart any smuggling attempt. Customs teams started the physical inspection of coming goods to intercept the said smuggle goods.

Customs Intelligence teams intercepted the suspected consignment of foreign origin seeds near Bahawalpur Bypass Road and said consignment was loaded with huge quantity of foreign origin Sunflower Canola seeds. The driver of the suspected consignment was asked to produce the import documents of the loaded goods to justify their possession.

Said driver provided the import documents to Customs Intelligence and Investigation teams which proved bogus during the verification of Field Intelligence Unit.

Said Sunflower Canola seeds were coming from Quetta and they were non-customs paid. Intercepted Sunflower Canola seeds were Argentine origin and they were brought into the country illegally.

Sunflower Canola seeds were high quality seeds and it was smuggled to consume in the cultivation of Sunflower Canola.

The weight of the seized Sunflower canola seed was almost 4 tons and their value was almost Rs.4 million. Further investigations are still underway.
