Multan Customs impounds smuggled tyres near Sahiwal

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has impounded huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled tyres worth Rs.2 million near Sahiwal. 

According to details, Assistant Collector Maryam Jameela received credible information about smuggling of foreign origin tyres and directed anti-smuggling unit Sahiwal to adopt comprehensive strategy to thwart attempt of smuggling.

Anti-smuggling Organization Sahiwal unit enhanced patrolling in the region to capture smuggled goods. Anti-Smuggling Organization team intercepted a truck near Mian Channu Road which was loaded with foreign origin tyres. 

Customs teams recovered almost 120 tryes of various brands including radial tyres . Customs teams asked the driver to produce documents regarding the legal import of the recovered radial tyres but he could not prove anything lawful. Then anti-smuggling teams seized said radial tyres under the Customs Act 1969. 

The seized goods were deposited to the Customs State Ware House Multan. The net value of the seized goods was almost Rs.2 million. Further investigations are still under way till the filing of this report.
