Multan: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Inland Revenue officials arrested a Faisalabad-based income tax lawyer in a tax forgery case after the cancellation of his bail from the Lahore High Court on Wednesday. The accused has been handed over on 11 days physical remand to the Customs officials by the orders of Customs Punjab Special Judge.
According to sources, the alleged lawyer has been involved in tax falsification of Rs 74.0375 million through a fake firm ‘Five Star Industries’ and used to submit the income tax claims of the said industries through his pin code and password. The Five Star Industries deals in paper board. Upon suspicion, the Customs officials investigated the matter as the firm was registered on the name of Ikhlaq Haider who was a watchman at a textile mill.
Consequently, the Customs officials presented the accused lawyer in the court of Customs Judge on Nov. 23rd, 2015 on the charges of forgery and the court rejected his bail prior arrest while he succeeded to manage disappeared from the court and he approached the Lahore High Court to get bail.
The Lahore High Court cancelled his bail on Dec. 23, 2015 (Wednesday) so the Customs Inland Revenue officials under the supervision of deputy director Muhammad Akram Khan arrested him outside the courtroom and presented him in the court of Customs Punjab Special Judge.
The Customs Court also rejected his point of view regarding the misuse of pin code and password and handed him over to Customs officials on eleven days physical remand and ordered that the accused would be presented again on Jan. 2, 2016 in the court.
It is also learnt that some other important businessmen are also involved in this case. The Customs Inspector Rub Nawaz is the investigating officer of the case.
