Multan Customs Intelligence impounds BMW car worth Rs 2.5m

MULTAN: The Customs Investigation and Intelligence Multan range has impounded a foreign origin smuggled BMW vehicle from Sadiqabad.

Following the special directives of Additional Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan, a Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Sadiqabad was deployed in some specific area for crackdown.

The FIU team intercepted the BMW 320i car near Kot Sabzal, Sadiqabad which was without registration plates and coming from Islamabad.

The value of the smuggled BMW car is Rs 2.5 million and the customs duty leviabale on the vehicle is almost Rs2 million. Senior Intelligence officer Amjad Pervaiz, Saleem Afzal and constable Zulfiqar impounded the foreign BMW car during the operation.

Customs Intelligence staff asked driver to produce any documentary evidence showing the legal import and lawful possession. But he could not produce any documents relating to its legal import or lawful on which customs impounded the vehicle under the prevailing customs law.

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan have impounded the BMW car under Section 157 (2) of the Customs Act, 1969B as after a consider able passage of time no one appeared before the seizing agency to claim ownership of seized vehicle as well as no proof of its legal import/lawful possession was produced.

A seizure report has been lodged after the seizing smuggled BMW car. Further investigation was under process.
