MULTAN: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized non-duty paid goods and vehicles worth Rs 82.18 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 58.95 million during first quarter (July-September) of the fiscal year 2016-17.
The department initiated an intensive campaign in the region and detected 38 cases during the said period by foiling various smuggling attempts.
It formed 11 seizure cases worth Rs.25.85 million in Multan city, 11 cases involving Rs 38.03 million in Dera Ghazi Khan and its surrounding areas, while the Sadiqabad region of Customs Intelligence remained at top by detecting 16 cases worth Rs 18.3 million during the said period.
The Multan Customs Intelligence impounded 33 various foreign origin smuggled vehicles valued at Rs 50.35 million during first quarter in its jurisdiction. The intelligence staff impounded vehicles, including Honda Accord, Toyota Land Cruiser TX, Toyota Fielder, Toyota, Corolla, Hilux Surf and other expansive vehicles of various brands and models during different actions.
Besides impounding vehicles, it seized miscellaneous goods, including diesel, cigarettes, gutka, chewing tobacco, art silk cloth, silicon sheets and cores and other items worth Rs 31.83 million during different raids.
The Customs Intelligence following directions of Director Imran Saud conducted anti-smuggling operations under the supervision of Deputy Director Naveed ur Rehman Bughvi.
It may be mentioned here that the department impounded different vehicles and goods worth Rs 24.83 million only in September 2016. Officials said that after the establishment of Sadiqabad office and permanent checkpoints, a decline has been observed in movement of smuggled goods and vehicles
