Multan Customs issues notices to importers of ceramic tiles for recovery of Rs5.19m duty

MULTAN: The Model Customs Collectorate Multan has issued notices to owners of ceramic tiles container from Multan Dry Port for recovery of regulatory duty.

According to details, the government has imposed 15% regulatory duty on the import of ceramic tiles. After this decision, importers of the ceramic tiles moved the Sindh High Court for relief against the decision for imposition of regulatory duty.

The Sindh High Court provided relief to the importers of the ceramic tiles during trial after hearing their opinions on certain conditions regarding 15% imposed regulatory duty. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah Lahore High Court also gave direction for the suspension of regulatory duty from the ceramic tiles till its final verdict of the petition filed by importers. Sindh High Court had also issued direction for the suspension of 15% regulatory duty on the import of ceramic tiles from China till its conclusion and the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared the verdict of Sindh High Court null and void in the final decision.

Several importers have cleared 41 consignments of the imported ceramic tiles of China Origin from Multan Dry Port few months ago.

All 41 consignments of Ceramic tiles were cleared rapidly on the submission of surety bond and post-date cheque from the importer for the clearance of their import shipments. Surety bond and post-date cheque from importer was submitted on the direction of Lahore High Court but after the final decision of SC, importers are bound to pay their regulatory duty as per government rate.

Deputy Collector Abdul Mueed Kanjoo has issued the recovery notices to importers of the ceramic tiles for the collection of their imposed regulatory duty taxes.

Almost Rs5.19 million regulatory duties were waved off during the import of 41 various containers in the clearance from the Multan Dry Pot after the previous directions of courts.
