MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) recovered worth Rs80.46 million of non-customs paid goods from private warehouse.
Collector Multan Customs Muneeza Majeed has intensified the crackdown against smuggled goods under the special directions of Chief Collector Enforcement Centre Region Faiz Ahmad to curtail smuggling in the South Punjab and anti-smuggling squad has stepped up its efforts in the jurisdiction.
Collector Muneeza Majeed received credible information from her source that huge quantities of smuggled goods were dumped in the different warehouses of Multan City.
Multan Customs Collector formed special team which comprised of Inspector Abdul Samad and others to take stern action against them.
Multan Customs obtained search warrants from local magistrate to seek permission for the inspection of said warehouses located near Bahawalpur Bypass road. Multan Customs raided warehouses where they recovered huge quantity of foreign origin non-Customs Skimmed milk, betel nuts, Cigarettes and other goods were dumped at private godowns. Smugglers used to supply smuggle goods in the retail markets of South Punjab. Customs teams recovered almost 392 bags of skimmed milk worth almost Rs.11.5 million .Customs teams recovered various brands of skimmed milk including Montra ,Varsh,Pegah and others foreign origin.
Multan Customs anti-smuggling squad recovered different brands of cigarettes, cigars and betel nuts worth Rs69 million. Anti-smuggling squad recovered 867 cartons of cigarettes and cigars of Macbeth brands. Almost 3840 kilograms betel nuts were also recovered during successful raid.
The recovered goods were shifted to State ware Customs House.
Multan Customs has seized the recovered goods under Customs act 1969 and started action against owner of godowns.
Sources told Customs Today that Multan Customs has stepped up anti-smuggling campaign in the jurisdiction and adopted zero tolerance policy against smuggled goods .Further investigations against owners of warehouses are still under process.
