Multan Customs recovers smuggled goods worth Rs28m near Sher Shah Toll Plaza

MULTAN: Multan Customs Collectorate Enforcement recovered huge quantity of contraband items which were being smuggled through public transport near Sher Shah Toll Plaza. The net market value of smuggled goods is Rs28 million.

It was informed by newly transferred Collector Dr. Rehmatullah Vistro during his press conference regarding the detection of smuggled goods He said that Multan Customs detected unique smuggling technique during their action after receiving tip-off from that huge quantity of smuggled goods will be transported through passenger bus coming from Quetta.

Multan Customs Anti-smuggling Organization received concrete information from their source that New Mehktar Passenger Bus is involved in smuggling of contraband goods from Dera Ghazi Khan to Multan. Special anti-smuggling squad took their action near Sher Shah Toll Plaza and recovered huge quantity of betel nuts, skimmed milk powder and other goods were concealed inside the cavity of Bus for the transportation of smuggled goods. Smuggled goods were almost Rs.28 million.

The Passenger bus which was involved in the transportation of smuggled goods and the passenger bus was travelling on the route of Dera Ghazi Khan to Multan. The recovered contraband goods were concealed in a specially designed cavity portions of the bus under the seats near emergency exit gates.

Anti-Smuggling Organization staff found that specially designed cavities were fitted under the body of the Bus for bringing smuggled goods. Multan Customs seized the recovered contraband items during their action.   

He said that Customs Collectorate Multan has its significant importance for business community of South Punjab due to its geographical location. Collectorate has promoted legal imports and legitimate trade through their intensive anti-smuggling campaigns in the region.

Multan Customs Collector directed field staff to remain more vigilant in the jurisdiction to curb smuggling from the region and to take immediate response to any suspicious movement in order to restrain smuggling and smugglers to eliminate smuggling from region.
