Multan Customs seizes Iranian ceramic tiles & blankets worth Rs3m

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs team seized huge quantity of smuggled Iranian origin ceramic tiles and blankets in their operation on Friday.

Sources told Customs Today, that Deputy Collector Saqibur Rehman received tip off from their informer that huge quantity of foreign origin ceramic tiles and other goods smuggled through jurisdiction. Deputy Collector Saqibur Rehman constituted special anti-smuggling squad to carry out action against them. Anti smuggling squad comprising Inspector Muhammad Saleem, Muhammad Irfan Qureshi, Kaleem ullah and Ayyaz Mahmood take part in the operation.

Following the instructions of Deputy Collector Saqib-ur-Rehman anti-smuggling squad took effective measure to curb smuggling in the region and started patrolling in Taunsa region by tightening monitoring of the movement of goods to intercept smuggled goods.

During checking customs anti-smuggling squad intercepted two different trucks which were loaded with Iranian origin ceramic tiles and blankets near Head Taunsa Barrage during their action. Customs teams found that Iranian origin tiles were packed in 200 cartons. While foreign origin blankets were packed in polythene bags. The said goods were coming from Quetta after smuggling from Iran and their destination was Multan. Customs anti-smuggling squad asked the drivers of the trucks to produce legal documents of recovered goods along with registration documents of trucks.

But they failed to produce any import documents of the recovered goods to justify their legal possession. Customs anti-smuggling squad seized the said goods under Customs Act 1969 by forming a seizure report and shifted the recovered goods in the State Ware House Multan for further investigations. The value of seized goods were valuing almost Rs3 million. Further investigations were still underway till the filing of this report.
