MULTAN: In a resolute effort to combat smuggling activities, the Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has intensified its operations, resulting in significant seizures of non-duty paid goods and vehicles valued at nearly Rs925.788 million during January 2023-24.
Under the dynamic leadership of Director Asif Khan Buzdar and with the unwavering support of Member Customs (Operation) and Director General Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, the Directorate has launched a relentless crackdown on smuggling operations in the region.
he intensified drive against smuggling, characterized by a zero-tolerance policy, has seen remarkable results. Additional Director Mumtaz Ali Raza and Deputy Directors Umair Zahid played pivotal roles in closing smuggling routes and thwarting smuggling attempts despite facing pressure from criminal elements.
Director Muhammad Asif Khan Buzdar directed field Intelligence staff to take immediate action against smuggled goods, leading to 28 significant seizure cases. Notably, the Customs Intelligence seized 10 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs25.8 million and approximately 1.3 million smuggled cigarette sticks.
Furthermore, interceptions during routine road checks yielded substantial quantities of various goods, including plastic bags, skimmed milk, dry fruits, and auto parts, preventing several major smuggling attempts.
These stringent actions have dealt a significant blow to smugglers, discouraging the illegal trade of non-duty paid goods in the region. The Directorate remains steadfast in its commitment to curbing smuggling activities and promoting genuine and legal trade in South Punjab.
