Customs to destroy contraband items worth Rs 6 million at Wagah border today

MULTAN: The Customs department is going to destroy contraband items at the Wagah border on the occasion of “International Customs Day” celebrations (today).

According to details, Customs Multan has already sent the contraband items worth Rs 6 million to Lahore in a 20-feet container.

The Multan Customs loaded the contraband items on the container under Superintendent Malik Tanvir Ahmad at the State Warehouse. Inspector Abdullah from State Warehouse will travel along with the goods in order to ensure safe delivery of the contraband items in Lahore.

The Customs Collectorate has already prepared the list after the approval of Deputy Collector Headquarters Muhammad Ali Malik  for the destruction of contraband items in a ceremony on the International Customs Day. These goods will be transported to Wagah border directly where these will be destroyed in presence of customs officials.

It is pertinent to mention that customs Multan have not celebrated International Customs day in their offfice Since 2013. Multan Customs is also celebrating World Customs ceremony along with Faisalabad and Lahore on the directions of Chief Collector to make this day memorable.

Customs have taken container on rent to deliver these contraband items on Monday to save charges of container .These contraband goods will be reached to Lahore late night for destruction and they will offloaded after their for grand destruction ceremony of customs.
