Multan Customs sold out seized apples in Rs.1.3 million in auction

MULTAN: The Collectorate of Customs sold out foreign origin fresh apples consignment in Rs.1.3 million during auction held on Saturday.

According to details, an open bidding was announced from Multan customs to auction fresh apples at State Warehouse of customs located in Industrial Estate Multan. Huge number of bidders participated in the auction of fresh apples at Multan Industrial Estate. Bidders were offered foreign origin apples at a cheaper rate than market price.

Intercepted apples were auctioned after two days because they are perishable items and Multan Customs has also conducted auction of these seized foreign origin apples.

It is pertinent to mention here that Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization impounded two trucks loaded with a huge quantity of fresh Afghan origin apples from Muzaffargarh. The seized apples were smuggled from Afghanistan through Baluchistan and enter into Punjab through Dera Ghazi Khan Region.

According to Customs Valuation, half a US dollar per kilogram customs duty is imposed on import of foreign origin apples and the recovered fresh apples were almost 15 tons in weight and quantity.

Local fruit sellers from fruit market offered bids in the auction and local fruit seller has purchased consignment of fresh apples after successful bid of Rs1.3 million.
