Multan: Excise to crack down on profession tax evaders soon

MULTAN: The Excise and Taxation Department is going to launch a crackdown on professional tax defaulters very soon.

The Excise and Taxation Department has decided to take stern action against professional tax evaders in the Multan city. It has started the awareness campaign for the collection of professional tax to educate the tax defaulters about professional tax.

Many companies, factories, business firms, lawyers, doctors, engineers, real estate businessman, importers, exporters and other businesses have been asked to pay their professional tax as soon as possible to avoid any action.

Professional tax evaders’ lists have been finalised after a survey, and the Excise Department is all set to take action against them in case of non-payment of professional tax.

Heavy penalties, arrest of owners, business seal and closure of their business will be the result in case of excise team’s action.

Multan Excise Director Jaam Siraaj has directed his special teams to recover professional tax from defaulters to cover the tax gap for financial year 2014-15. The department has so far recovered Rs 23 million as professional tax from the city, while the target for the existing economic year for professional tax is Rs 40 million. Meanwhile the department is going to take strict action against the defaulters for recovery of professional tax.
