Speaking at the event, Director Wattoo highlighted the severe economic impact of smuggling on the national economy, resulting in annual losses of hundreds of billions of rupees. He reiterated the department’s firm stance against illegal trade, stating, “This operation serves as a clear message that smuggling will not be tolerated. Customs Intelligence is committed to protecting the country’s revenue.”

Among the destroyed items, over 7 tons were illegal cigarettes. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat the smuggling of goods that undermine legal trade and the country’s fiscal stability.

The destruction ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Deputy Director Mumtaz Ali Chaudhry, Deputy Director Maryam Jamila, representatives from the Pakistan Tobacco Corporation, Civil Defense, Anti-Narcotics Force, and the Department of Environment, among other law enforcement agencies.

Director Wattoo further emphasized that the department will not rest until smuggling is fully eradicated, assuring continued actions to promote legal trade and safeguard the economy. “We will persist in these efforts to ensure economic stability and prevent illegal activities,” he added.

The successful operation has been lauded as a milestone in curbing smuggling and enhancing legal trade. Additional Director Customs Mumtaz Ali Chaudhry, Deputy Director Muhammad Umair Zahid, Deputy Collector Enforcement Maryam Jamila, and General Manager Multan Dry Port Trust Khawaja Muhammad Hassan also participated in the event.
